On the High Seas Rally, the kickass musicians don’t just perform, they sail and hang with us all week. Grammy Award-winning country star Joe Diffie — plus Foghat and Molly Hatchet! — will each perform 2 full concerts in the Main Theater during the 2020 rally cruise so everyone gets a chance to enjoy their awesome shows. While we await the December sailing of the World’s Only Biker Rally On a Cruise Ship, we asked Joe Diffie a few questions to get to know the artist who has dominated the charts ever since his debut album, A Thousand Winding Roads.
HSR: The High Seas Rally has been the only biker rally at sea since 2003, what are you most looking forward to on the cruise?
Diffie: I get to make a living singing for people, and hopefully making them forget about the stresses of their lives for a while. Even after all these years, it’s not lost on me how lucky that makes me.
HSR: Your songwriting and sound have always captured both life’s challenges and triumphs. How do you think that music style connects with a ship full of bikers on the High Seas Rally?
Diffie: I’ve gotten to know a lot of bikers in my travels, and I’ve found them to be some of the most genuine folks out there. Country music is rooted in songs about real life. I think that’s what connects.
HSR: Your debut album, A Thousand Winding Roads, resulted in your first song landing atop the Billboard Hot Country charts. What made that album so special and how has your music evolved over the last 30 years?
Diffie: I think if you talk to any artist, they’ll tell you that there’s nothing like the thrill of watching your first song go to #1. It was beyond my wildest dreams. I’m really fortunate to have had such a long career.
HSR: We know you’re a kickass musician. What other awesome talents do you have that we may not know about?
Diffie: What a generous compliment. Thank you for that. I don’t know if they’re awesome talents, but I’m an avid golfer. Many people probably don’t know that I love to cook. I even worked with my mom and some other family members to put out a cookbook a few years ago.
